KEI Endowment Fund

The KEI Endowment Fund has been established to provide long-term support for the KEI mission. The idea is to grow the endowment over time to a size where returns from investing the endowments assets can finance a meaningful fraction of the work done by KEI in providing scholarships, mentoring, and access to opportunities to children and young adults in Kashmir.

Altaf Ahmed Shaw

Altaf Ahmed Shaw (1947 - 2012) was born to Mohammed Shafi Shaw and Begum Jalla Bano in Srinagar, Kashmir. He attended Tyndale Biscoe School and graduated from the Regional Engineering College, Srinagar with a degree in chemical engineering. After college, he joined and grew the family business dealing in carpets and handicrafts. More important to him, over any other pursuit or concern, was being a devoted son, father, family-man, and friend. He was most known and loved for his tremendous generosity - giving came naturally to him. There are innumerable stories of people who remember his love and kindness, especially when they were down and he became the hand that helped. He believed that spiritual enlightenment was deeply entwined with giving and left this legacy with all who knew him. His family has helped establish the KEI endowment to honor his selfless spirit.
