Amid the challenges faced in Kashmir, my prospects seemed limited until an opportunity presented itself in the form of the Kashmir Education Initiative (KEI). Little did I know, this organization would become the cornerstone of my transformation. Joining back in 2015 as a scholar marked a turning point in my life. Initially reserved and uncertain, I soon found myself immersed in a world of opportunities and growth.
Through various workshops, seminars, and community events, KEI provided me with a platform to explore my interests and develop new skills. From participating in group discussions to eventually becoming a speaker, KEI helped me find my voice and build my confidence.
Despite being a diligent student, there were moments when the weight of expectations felt overwhelming. During these times, I found solace in the guidance of a mentor provided by KEI. With unwavering support and invaluable advice, my mentor became a beacon of light, steering me through the challenges of high school and beyond.
Thanks to KEI's support, I pursued my bachelor's degree in computer science from Delhi Technological University (DTU). Additionally, I became the first Kashmiri to receive a Mitacs Global Research Internship offer in Canada, which broadened my horizons and allowed me to gain valuable experience.
Throughout my journey, KEI has been more than just a financial aid provider. It has been a support system—a family that has guided me through challenges and celebrated my successes. They have always welcomed me, infused the sense of belongingness and their help is just one call away. Name anything and KEI has done for me. From mentorship to access to digital resources, KEI has been instrumental in my personal and professional growth.
Looking back, I am grateful for the impact KEI has had on my life. It has empowered me to overcome obstacles and pursue my aspirations with confidence. KEI embodies the belief that education can truly make a difference, even in the most challenging circumstances.
